But it doesn't tell whether it's a Springy or Silver Star, but the headstock doesn't seem as big as the 70's big one from other Silver Stars, so I guess it would make it a Springy.Īnd how would I determine the ST-number (ST-50, ST-100 etc. The seller still has the serial number which makes it a '81. Now this one had the Tokai logo replaced with a Fender Logo. A '79, according to the serial number on the headstock ( ). Judging the info on this site ( ) the logo tells us that the first one is a '84. To determine when Tokai manufactured your Fender copy use the chart below (with pics). Tokai added the 'L' in front of serial numbers starting in 1981. Using the table below this number can be translated into the year/model Fender being copied. I've considered the following three guitars (beware danish site, currency about USD圆): The number stamped on the back of the neck plate is not a serial number but a Fender model ID number. I've also read that the Silver Stars were based on 70's strats with the large headstocks and were a non-export, cheaper version, but are they inferior? What are the difference between the Springy Sound, Silver Star and Gold Star models? As far as I know (been reading a bit on the topic) the Springy Sound changed into the Gold Star in about '84, same model, just a new name. Now I went to the Tokai forums and Tokai serial number database, didn't find the information I needed and for some reason I can't sign up for the forum. Additionally, Tokai has begun placing serial numbers on their Korean Made instruments (which begin with a letter) so hopefully we'll be able to make headway there as well. Low price and, if people are speaking da truth, some of them are as great the best Fenders. So I've been on the lookout for a new strat and the old Tokais reallyy caught my eye.
